Important Information
1) STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES
Thank you for participating in the Student Led conferences this week! The students had a great time sharing their learning with you, and we hope that you enjoyed the opportunity to see your children proudly show you what they have learned this last term!
2) COFFEE SOCIAL
The Welcoming Committee is excited to invite you to a complimentary coffee social hosted by the CCS Welcoming Committee on Thursday, April 17th, from 2:30-3:30 PM (or until the coffee runs out). This informal gathering is a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow parents and help strengthen our school community. The event will be located by the fence near the pick-up area. We hope to see you there for a cup of coffee and great conversation!
3) SCHOOL ZONE SPEEDING
You’ve likely noticed that Surrey Police has been monitoring speeding in our school zone for the past few weeks. I want to acknowledge their prompt response to my request after several parents reported speeding. During my debriefing with the Constable today, I was surprised to learn that the majority of speeding drivers are actually our own parents.
I’m reaching out again to kindly remind everyone to be cautious and mindful of their speed in our school zone and on our school property. The safety of our students should always be our top priority, and I understand that none of our families would ever want to be responsible for their injury. While most of our parents adhere to the speed limits and traffic rules, there are still those who choose not to. This is disheartening, and I kindly request that you take a moment to slow down and remember that the safety of our students rests in your hands. We can only do so much from our end to ensure the safety of all students.
4) PETITION
Late last year the Liberals and NDP put forward a motion to strip churches and pro life charities of their charitable tax free status. This would be devastating to the operations of the church and it's charities (IE Knights of Columbus, St Vincent de Paul etc) as they would need to pay tax and would have less money to do charitable endeavors. This would also impact your tax return on your child(ren)’s tuition. Please consider signing the petition here.
5) AGM
Our AGM is scheduled for May 6 at 6:00pm. Please ensure that at least one parent attends this evening. Lots of important information, including staffing updates for next year will be shared. There will be a wine draw for everyone in attendance! Please note that slides WILL NOT be shared, as we are encouraging all parents to attend.
6) PARENT EVENING- MAY 21
We will be having our annual Parent Evening on May 21 at 6:30pm. This year we will be We’re excited to screen the award-winning documentary “Screenagers: Elementary School Edition” this year. Two years ago, we screened the original documentary, and since then, they’ve released a specific version tailored for elementary schools. Please make every effort to attend and watch this important documentary that delves into the challenges families face in today’s digital age. We invested a significant amount of money in obtaining the licensing for this screening because we believe it’s crucial for parents to be informed about their children’s digital habits. We’re witnessing an alarming rise in anxiety, depression, and other issues stemming from excessive social media use.
7) MITE BOXES
Please remember to return your mite boxes to school. Hopefully our students were able to donate some change for the seminarians!
8) PARENT PARTICIPATION:
Families, the deadline to complete parent participation hours is fast approaching! The requirement of 34 regular hours and 6 maintenance hours for a total of 40 hours is due by May 31, 2025. Please check the onVolunteers website regularly as tasks are posted throughout the week.
If you are unable to attend a volunteer shift, kindly remove yourself from the task with as much notice as possible. If there is more than 24 hours notice, the task can be reposted and hopefully a replacement can be found . If there is less than 24 hours notice, email the parent participation coordinator. Failure to report an absence will result in a no show fee of $25 per missed shift. Three no shows, and the family will be removed from the program and will have to pay out the remaining hours at the cost of $30 per missed regular hour and $60 per missed maintenance hour.
Ad hoc requests are tasks that you did not sign up for on the website or a task that took longer than expected. Please submit these within one month of completion for approval. Anything submitted beyond that date, and approval is at the discretion of the coordinator.
