June 1 Update from Mr. Borkowski

Parents and Friends of CCS,

I would like to provide you a brief report on the first day back to school:

We were happy today to welcome back the first 75 students after a very long time away. We learned a few things on our first day back.

Our planning ahead of time was invaluable to creating a safe environment for the kids to return to school. The morning drop-off went flawlessly. Students washed their hands before entering the classrooms and did so very well. Our cleaning regime was thorough. The teachers had the tools to clean whenever they deemed it necessary and our janitorial staff came at lunchtime to clean high traffic areas. With the beautiful sunshine, we were able to allow students lots of outdoor breaks for fresh air and exercise. Overall, the weather and our planning cooperated for a smooth first day back.

A variable that was more difficult to plan for was student behavior. It was a constant challenge to remind them to maintain a 2m distance from one another whenever possible, especially among the younger children. We aren’t expecting perfection and hopefully the students will become more accustomed to maintaining distance from each other. If your child is coming to school, please remind them to try to keep that distance whenever possible. We have been telling them that they should be able to hold their arms out and spin around without touching anyone else.

We will continue with the same roster of students and staff for tomorrow, June 2nd. We will provide care for children of Essential Service Workers on June 3rd, 4th, and 5th. There are no online classes on June 5th, but we will be able to provide care for ESW children that day.

If you wish to send your children to school next week, you need to let the office know by Wednesday, June 3rd. Depending on our numbers, we will either repeat the same schedule for Week 2, or split the school and have half the school on Monday and Tuesday and the other half on Thursday and Friday. A lot of planning will go into getting ready, so it is imperative that we adhere to that Wednesday deadline for signing up for next week.

Please continue to pray for the staff and students as they take on this new challenge.

Sincerely,

Mr. Jason Borkowski

Principal
